Wet ground, low pressure or unexplained water use can point toward an underground supply problem, but those symptoms alone do not determine how much pipe needs replacement.
When the source is uncertain, leak detection can help investigate suspected water loss. If pressure has changed, the cause may also need to be assessed through water pressure repair rather than assuming the water main is responsible.

Can a leaking water main simply be repaired?
In some cases, yes. If the damage is localized and the surrounding line remains in suitable condition, a targeted repair may be enough.
Why does water appear away from the damaged pipe?
Water escaping underground can travel through soil before reaching the surface. The visible wet area therefore may not be directly above the actual failure.
Can water pressure problems mean the main is damaged?
A water-line problem is one possible cause of pressure changes, but there are other potential causes within the plumbing system. Diagnosis is needed before attributing the problem to the water main.
